About
Ann’s music is intimate and vulnerable, with themes ranging from acknowledging feelings and self-acceptance to introspection, self-worth, and transformation.
In singer-songwriter style, Ann accompanies herself on acoustic guitar, with vocal harmonies from Milwaukee musicians like Sandy Weisto and Nancy Martinho, members of her choir, Karen Beyer, Alberta Dhillon, and John Wanner, and her husband, Matt Nagel.
Ann got her start in the Milwaukee folk scene by singing with a folk trio called Sweet Diversity. Sweet Diversity performed a cappella, three-part harmony, and contemporary and traditional folk music. They released two CDs, “Sweet Diversity” (2000) and “They Get That Way Underground” (2004). Ann released her first solo CD, “I Surrender,” in 2008.
Ann fell in love with acoustic guitar as a child, listening to her father play songs like “You are My Sunshine” and “Frog Went A-Courtin”. She learned to play the guitar and was singing in a choir by age 10.
As an adult, Ann started writing poems and reciting them at poetry readings. One day she realized, “I’m a musician. I should put these to music…”
